Genesis of the “LexT” Knife: Lex Talionis

Lex Talionis: Latin for the law of retaliation, where the response matches the offense committed in kind and degree…  an “eye for an eye”

This ancient law is the foundational principle behind our “LexT” knife.   The LexT was designed as a dormant defensive tool unless needed offensively for your protection and escape.

LexT Design Specifications

The Krooked Knife Company has designed and developed a new knife named The Lex Talionis (LexT).  The LexT is a knife designed for flexible concealment and self-defense.

The design vision for the LexT was to merge penetration characteristics of a broadhead arrow with the cutting capability of a double-edged knife.   These attributes are integrated using a purpose designed Krooked handle which will enable a secure grip on the LexT ambidextrously.

Regardless of hand surface slickness (e.g. sweat or blood) the LexT remains locked in place, where it needs to be as a natural extension of your hands.    This new design has resulted in a truly innovative best of breed knife never seen before in the market with efficient stabbing and cutting capability from virtually any position.

We gave critical thought to the deployment system of the LexT.  The system needed to offer many EDC mounting options, which it does.   The LexT can be mounted almost anywhere with six rivet points to connect the movable strap for your application. The main body of the system is heat formed using Kydex®.  The Kydex is thin, and the outer profile is smooth and cut close to the LexT.  This minimizes the width as well as overall thickness allowing for comfortable concealment.

Most standard sheaths for concealable knifes require the knife to be deeply inserted into the sheath in order to catch an edge on the knife, or some mechanical locking system to be used.   The disadvantage of this,  as we see it,  was no immediate and positive indexing on the knife with “first touch.”   Typically, a knife needs to be unlocked from a sheath, or pulled and re-gripped to correctly index it.  Which can take precious time and thought away from a threat at hand.

The Krooked Knife Company solved these problems with fresh thinking and innovation going beyond normal sheath design.   Our design embeds a small but powerful rare earth magnet into the core sheath sandwiched behind a third layer of very thin Kydex.   This magnet is what allows strong positive retention through magnetic attraction to the AEB-L stainless steel of the LexT.  This design also offers a smooth and mechanically frictionless draw.

We feel we have brought a new type of knife deployment system to the market with the LexT that is simple, functional, and elegant.  The materials used in the LexT and its deployment system provide a superb balance of toughness, sharpness, and durability by any industry standard.

The LexT and LexTR are proudly designed and made in the USA.

Testimonials

Design and use insights from our Law Enforcement testing team.

“I’m currently assigned to a violent crime/gang task force and wear plain clothes 99% of the time and always wear my Krooked Knives’ LexT centerline. Even when I wear a duty belt for preplanned enforcement action I wear the LexT in the same position on my inner belt. Being a large/tall person with bigger hands (xxl or bigger in most gloves) the LexT works great for me with the design elements of the grip, etc. I feel confident deploying it with either hand and can deploy it from any position as far as standing, seated, etc. I have been active full-time officer for over a decade and the LexT is the first knife that has checked all the boxes for my needs while being highly concealable, easily deployable, secure in it’s sheath, and that works with my hand size.”

“I have carried a variety of knives as defensive tools throughout my military career and in my subsequent work with law enforcement. I was never quite satisfied with what was available, and I was constantly looking for a better solution.

Through pure happenstance, I was introduced to the LexT knife. Despite its non-traditional appearance, I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the design. After several years of use, I remain impressed with this knife. It has earned a place among the items I carry daily. I can give it no better endorsement.”

“Simply put, I chose the LexT because it made sense to me and the world I live in with the skills I already possessed. Let me explain. I have been a plain clothes law enforcement officer for over 10 years. Obsessing over my “EDC” is an understatement. I, like many others, have a bin of expensive stuff that just didn’t quite make the exclusive cut for occupying space and weight on my body 99% of the time. My EDC “Theory” is ever evolving but contains several staple items, pistol, reload, cuffs, medical, flashlight etc. but a defensive blade was never one of them until recently. The reason for that was simple, I just didn’t have the time to invest in training edge weapons nor did I believe it was a hole in my “Theory”. Of recent years I’ve been introduced, through work, to the concepts and unique constraints present when fighting in confined spaces like vehicles or even simply tangled up with a person on the ground. It only took me a few reps in training to see that a pistol is not always the best weapon for the job due to accessibility and proximity to the threat. So… my “Theory” changed, and now I need a blade that is built for someone who has little edged weapons training and doesn’t take up a lot of real-estate on my already crowded belt. The LexT was introduced to me by a friend and I immediately realized the intuitive design and natural grip. I have played with multiple carry positions and will simply say that having options is great and I haven’t settled on one just yet. I have come to realize some  added benefits to carrying a defensive blade, one being that I can easily carry it on me around the house and out in the neighborhood where I sometimes don’t carry a pistol, giving me a significant and easily concealable tool that I practically forget I have on. It has officially been added to my EDC Theory and that is a pretty exclusive club.”

“I have served in both the military and civilian law enforcement sectors for over 20 years combined.  I served in combat units with service in the Middle East and specialized law enforcement units with service along the U.S.-Mexico border and in major metropolitan areas.  Unfortunately, I have had experience with a variety of deadly force situations.  In my experience, no deadly force situation is quite as real as the one where you and your opponent are within arm’s reach if not actively grappling.  That’s where the LexT comes in: if I could go back in time, I’d get more training and I’d carry a LexT – everywhere.  I can’t go back so I’ll settle for carrying the LexT – everywhere.  If you are an armed professional, or a lawful citizen serious about self-defense, you need to get trained and you need the LexT.  Highly recommend.”
